The role
You will be the face of Wickham Services on site — working for yourself but alongside our team, travelling to customer locations across your zone, and completing the job to a high standard, first time.
- Install, service, inspect and repair parcel lockers — mechanical assembly, secure fixing, door and lock alignment, power connection, network and comms checks, commissioning.
- Carry out PPM visits on audio and signage systems to a set schedule and checklist.
- Complete fascia, signage and retail fit-out works at bank branches and retail sites, including out-of-hours work where the site requires it.
- Attend reactive call-outs — diagnose, fix on the spot where possible, and report clearly where parts or a return visit are needed.
- Carry out site surveys — measure up, photograph, assess access, power and groundworks.
- Complete a POWRA on arrival at every site, and work to the RAMS supplied for the job.
- Submit digital sign-off through the engineer portal before you leave — photographs, time on site, signature and notes.
- Monthly van check and expenses with receipt photos, through the same portal.
A typical day is a route of up to seven jobs, planned and sequenced for you the day before, starting from home. Some days are a single large install; others are a run of locker inspections across one postcode area.
Essential
- A full, clean UK driving licence — the role is van-based and you will be driving daily.
- Hands-on field service, installation or maintenance experience — lockers, vending, ATMs, EV charge points, signage, shopfitting, access control, security systems or similar.
- Practical mechanical and electrical competence — hand and power tools, fixings into a range of substrates, fault-finding, working from drawings.
- Comfortable with technology — smartphone app and web portal for schedule, photographs, sign-off and expenses. Neat, complete paperwork matters as much as the fix.
- A professional, customer-facing manner — you will be on live retail, bank and Royal Mail premises representing us.
- Willingness to travel across your zone, with occasional overnight stays, early starts or night and weekend work.
- Self-employed status — registered with HMRC with your own UTR, invoicing us for the work.
- Public liability insurance — we will confirm the cover level our clients require before you start.
- Right to work in the UK, and able to pass DBS and client security screening.
Desirable
- CSCS card, IPAF or PASMA, 18th Edition, ECS or equivalent — or the appetite to gain them. We fund the tickets you need.
- Experience of networked or powered equipment — comms and data cabling, SIM/4G devices, PSUs, low-voltage supplies.
- Experience working to RAMS and permit-to-work systems on client sites.
- Prior work in parcel and logistics, retail banking or shopfitting environments.
